How can I delete an account I was assigned for a temp job?

Summary of User’s Issue and Solutions Discussed:

  • The main problem reported by the user, Rahmani, is the inability to delete a $0 retirement account linked to a past employer, which is cluttering their accounts.
  • Fidelity representatives clarified that workplace retirement accounts cannot be removed but can be hidden from view.
  • To hide the $0 balance accounts, the user can customize their display preferences on the Fidelity website by unchecking specific boxes.
  • Although the account can be hidden, if it still appears in retirement planning sections, Fidelity suggested reporting the issue for further investigation.
  • If the user wants to share additional information privately, they were advised to contact Fidelity associates directly for assistance.

I briefly worked as a translator for a year or so in college and the company I worked for was set up for doctors. I somehow have a retirement account with 0 dollars in it linked to me and I can’t seem to delete it. It’s just cluttering up my accounts. How can I delete it?

Hi, @Rahmani. Workplace accounts, like 401(k)s, cannot be removed as they are a part of our record keeping. That said, you can hide workplace retirement accounts such as 401(k)s. You also have the choice to hide your Fidelity accounts that have a $0.00 balance. To do so, you can follow these steps once you’re logged in at http://fidelity.com/: Click the “Customize” link from the top left of your Summary page Select the “Display Preferences” tab From here, you can uncheck the boxes for “Show workplace accounts” and “Show zero balance Fidelity accounts” If there is anything we can clarify or if additional questions pop up, please don’t hesitate to ask! We’re always happy to help. 🟢

Thanks for the clarification. Is there any way to hide it “better”? It still shows up in my retirement planning and throughout more places in the website.

Thanks for the follow-up, @Rahmani. While you can choose which accounts to include in your retirement planning, if you see hidden account information where it shouldn’t be, please tell us more about where you’re seeing this so we can investigate further. We look forward to hearing back! 🟢

Is there anywhere I can paste this screenshot that doesn’t involve me pasting it publicly?
I am trying to let you all know where it appears but everything is blocked from sharing lol
