I placed a limit sell order in after hours for 10% above the current trading price. It was not executed, and I didn’t expect it to be. I just placed it to learn how the trading web site works. At the time, the ask price was shown as $0. I expected to see my asked offer shown on the summary page after I placed the order. But it didn’t show up even after about 10 minutes. Please explain more about what determines when and whether bid and ask prices show up on the web site. What are the steps from the time an investor places a limit order until it appears on the web site? What is the range of elapsed time?
