Last named on Check Misspelled

Here’s a summary of the main problem and solutions discussed:

  • Problem: The user, Cheez, had a check with their name misspelled by one letter and was unsure if they could deposit it digitally.
  • Solution: It was advised that the name on the check generally needs to match the name on file completely, and depositing a check with a misspelling could lead to rejection.
  • Solution: The best course of action is to request a new check with the correct spelling.
  • Solution: Cheez could attempt to deposit the check digitally and see if it is accepted; if rejected, they should then request a corrected check.
  • Solution: Alternatively, Cheez could visit a local investor center to deposit the check, where an associate can verify their identity and process the deposit.
  • Outcome: Cheez successfully deposited the check, which cleared without issue.

Hello! I was written a check but my name on it was misspelled by exactly 1 letter. Will I still be able to deposit it digitally?

Good Morning, @Cheez; I am happy to address this with you. When depositing a check through the mobile app, the name on the check generally needs to match your name on file completely. Depositing a check with a misspelling could cause the check to be rejected. The best course of action is to request a new check with the correct spelling of your name. That said, you can try the mobile deposit and see if it is accepted. If rejected, you can go about requesting a corrected check. You could also deposit the check at your local investor center. There, an associate can verify you and process the deposit. You can find the closest investor center by using the branch locator below. https://www.fidelity.com/branches/overview We appreciate you investing with us, and if we can assist with anything else, please let us know. 🟢

Thanks for keeping us posted. The collection period of a check deposit can take up to 6 business days to be reviewed and completed. Once the check has been posted, it will also appear in the “History” section. Deposits listed with a status of “Pending” are under review. A status of “Rejected” indicates an issue with your deposit and a notification will be sent to you to let you know the best next steps. Checks deposited before 4:00 p.m. ET on a business day are typically posted the same day. You can find your pending transactions on the mobile app by following these steps after logging in: 1. Select the desired account and click “Activity” 2. Click the drop-down for “Pending transactions” If the check is rejected due to the misspelling, the investor centers can still deposit the check even with the “mobile deposit” box checked. 🟢
