We appreciate you opening a new account with us! I’m happy to provide information on placing Treasury Bills (T-bills) orders. Newly issued Treasuries can be purchased at auctions held by the government, while previously issued bonds can be purchased on the secondary market. Both types of orders can be placed through Fidelity. Luckily, we have an excellent step-by-step guide to purchasing treasuries on our website. Feel free to check it out below. How to Trade Auction Treasury Securities/TIPS (PDF): https://www.fidelity.com/bin-public/060_www_fidelity_com/documents/fixed-income/How-To-Trade-Auction-Treasury-Securities.pdf Now, let’s talk about the Auto Roll feature. Auto Roll allows you to purchase eligible Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and U.S. Treasury Securities and arrange for the proceeds of the principal to be used to automatically purchase a new position that meets your criteria once your first position has matured. In essence, this is a special case that accounts for the gap between the maturity of the old security and the new security. If you’d like some extra reading with more in-depth details surrounding Auto Roll, help yourself to the link, which I’ve included below.
