Trying to transfer a security from one Fidelity account to a similar Fidelity Account

  • Main Problem: The user is unable to see the option to move shares between Fidelity brokerage accounts, only having options to move money.
  • Suggested Solutions:
    • Fidelity representatives indicated that the ability to transfer shares may depend on the type of accounts involved (e.g., nonretirement vs. retirement accounts).
    • They requested more information about the specific accounts and securities to assist with the issue.
    • Since the user does not use social media, they were advised to reach out via Reddit or contact Fidelity’s customer service by phone for further assistance.

I have been able to do it in the past, I know it isnt too hard to do. But when I go to accounts & trade, then click transfers, then click Deposit, withdraw, or transfer money, I get the options to move money to and from my Fidelity accounts. But I do not get the move shares option

Thank you for reaching out to us. I’ll cover eligibility to transfer assets between Fidelity accounts with you today. To start, the account types you have matter. For example, eligible nonretirement brokerage accounts can generally transfer shares between accounts, whereas retirement brokerage accounts only accept cash for contributions. If you do not mind, please share more details with us so we can help you with this. Just make sure not to include any personal account information, such as account numbers, as Discord is not a secure channel. We’ll follow up with you here. Thanks for reaching out! 🟢

Thanks! So the transfers I am making are coming from Brokerage account to a Brokerage account. Only noticeable difference is that the first account where the securities are coming from, the account starts with an X. Whereas the 2 other accounts, where the securities will be being transferred to, are also brokerages but both account numbers begin with Z.

Hey, @afhlidh! I’m jumping in here. To clarify, after following the steps to make a transfer, is there nothing under “Select your transfer details” that gives you the transfer option of moving shares? Have you recently purchased the shares? Also, what type of security are you trying to move to your other accounts? The more info we gather here, the better we can help! 🟢

I only get the options to move money, and no options to move shares. These shares in particular were not recently purchased, they are residual GME shares left over that I am looking to move out of my serious portfolios. The primary security is GME. Just want to move it from a cannabis focused portfolio, into a more “play” or less serious portfolio
