I’m interested in buying some European stocks and ETFs. I know that I have to enable International Trading under my account, but, before doing so, I would like to know, in plain English, if there are any fees, penalties or risks for me to do so. I am aware of the currency risks and of the opening/closing hours of the markets, which are different from those of the US markets. Any other important aspect I should take into account? Thanks!

Hi there, @MLG. There are fees charged to place trades internationally. The costs associated include: •A commission is charged on the trade that covers any clearing and settlement costs and local broker fees. •Additional fees (i.e., stamp duty, transaction levy, trading fees) that are specific to some foreign exchanges and will be identified as Other Fees at the time of the trade. •foreign currency exchange fee if the U.S. dollar is chosen as the settlement currency You can learn more at the links below. Thanks, @FidelityLinsey. But that means that just enabling International Trade in Fidelity to search for European ETFs, etc. doesn’t incur in any costs, right? I would only incur in those costs if I place a trade. Also, before placing an international trade, would I be presented with all the additional fees incurred? Thanks again.

Hi, @MLG. I’m happy to chime in here. There are no fees for enabling International Stock Trading on your account. You’re correct that you would only incur fees when placing a trade. Fees and commissions will be disclosed to you at the time of the trade. Please be sure to review the trade details carefully. Let us know if anything else comes up! 🟢
